As a born organiser, my passion is mentoring women to launch, develop and grow businesses, at the same time as achieving individual goals and a truly workable balance between professional and personal lives. My own career has taken me in some completely unpredictable and sometimes surprising directions, but if there’s one important lesson I’ve learnt, it’s that no experience is ever wasted, you never know when a skill is going to prove unexpectedly invaluable!
I originally trained at the London College of Fashion in dress design, pattern-cutting and textiles, which thoroughly satisfied my creative side. I then decided to change direction completely and moved into computer programming and analysis which, whilst not doing anything for my wardrobe needs, absolutely satisfied my love of order and organisation.
When I got married in 2002, I found, to my annoyance, there appeared to be a bit of a hole in the market when it came to the finer details of function planning and a marked absence of practical help on the day. Not being one to let a gap go unplugged, I took the fairly immediate decision to launch Wedding Wonders, which I’m delighted to say, is just celebrating its twelfth successful year.
When I left my comfortable computing contract and plunged headlong into the world of weddings and parties, it made sense to join a women’s networking group, and within a very short space of time I came to appreciate just how much that could do for me and my business – we both went from strength to strength.
In fact, so inspired was I, that in October 2011 I launched my own Watford group and then (you’ll have gathered I’m not a woman to do things by halves) I bought the South West Herts Athena franchise. I now run six thriving groups in Watford, Bushey, Kings Langley, Rickmansworth and Harrow. My decision to launch the Business Support Community is taking my own career to its next stage, doing what I love – developing opportunities, mentoring and offering guidance for those who are also ready to move onwards and upwards.
